Monday Night, November 5th Show

Hi all!

Here’s the setlist from Monday night, November 5th, the 11th episode. I dedicated the show to all those who suffered any kind of loss from Sandy, whether it was power for a few days or to those who lost everything. It was a night of songs of hope.

Two new segments started: Tunes From Beyond the Tomb, horror-themed songs and the Monday Night Wars. This war of songs is all about you, the listeners. Each week I play a couple of songs in four genres (alternative, prog, rock and metal) and you get to vote on which song you like best in each category. At the end of the month, the weekly winners go head to head to head in a triple threat match and the winning song gets put in rotation as well as more songs by the band whose song won. Do you think you have an unbeatable song? Feel free to make song suggestions for the Monday Night Wars and feel a sense of pride when your song kicks butt!

Ways to vote and recommend songs: You can go to the Rock Labyrinth Facebook page, join up and vote, send me a message on Facebook or email me at gary@shmusicmedia.com. Because the show is repeated on Saturday mornings at 9am, voting will remain open until Saturday at midnight. The votes will be counted up and the winner announced the following Monday.

The October 29th Show ... MIA

First, I'd like to say that I hope all of you and your families out there in internet radio-land are safe after Sandy blew through and you didn't have too much damage.

Well, Hurricane Sandy did in the Halloween Labyrinth show this past Monday. We had no power, so all I could do was play board games in the dark by flashlight and listen to music on my iPod with little tiny speakers. And course hope that by the time  Sandy blew out the river hadn't crested over 11' and the wind hadn't done too much damage.

I put a lot of time and effort into finding songs for the Halloween show and because of that, starting this Monday, November 5th, I'll be having a new segment (potentially) called Terror Tunes From Beyond the Tomb or just Tunes From the Tomb. Or something. You'll be hearing three to four horror-themed songs from such bands as Bauhaus, The Misfits, Horror of '59, Polka Dot Cadaver and many more. I'll also have faux movie trailers from Ru Morgues Hymns from the House of Horror II as well as clips from a variety of horror movies.

I'll still be playing What Lurks Under the Covers and Birthday Wishes segments and bring The Vault in maybe once a month.

If there's anything you'd like to hear like song requests or segment suggestions or songs for the current segments, please let me know. You can either post your comments here or send them over to gary@shmusicmedia.com.

So I hope to see you all on Monday, November 5th at 9pm at www.shmusicmedia.com to join me for another exciting three hours of prog, punk, metal and alt-wave!

Peace,
Gary . . .

Two Big Announcements

First, to all the viewers, readers, followers, listeners and first-time drop-bys ... welcome and thank you. Oddly, because I've been spending so much time working on each week's Rock Labyrinth show, I haven't put as much time into the blog as I've wanted. But that's going to (hopefully) change.

So my first announcement is about Sunday the 23rd. I'll be taking part in Monmouth County's (New Jersey) first ever Comic-Con. That's right! The Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan is going to be transformed in Comic-Con! here's a link to an article from the Middletown Patch about the event:

http://middletown-nj.patch.com/articles/monmouth-county-s-first-comic-con-comes-to-manalapan

I'll be there signing and selling my two horror novels, Forever Will You Suffer and Instutitional Memory. So if you're around and near Manalapan, NJ, stop in and say hi! I'll be with several other local NJ authors, though I'm hoping to get around and meet artists and other cool comic book folk!

The con goes from 1-4:30pm and library is located at 125 Symmes Rd in Manalapan and best of all, it's free! So come on down and check it out!

The other annoucement is simply the setlist from my last Monday's Rock Labyrinth, that for one night had become the Prog Labyrinth. I figured it's easier to show you what I'm playing than to list a bunch of genres. so here it is:

1. M*A*S*H Theme in honor of the show's 40th anniversary
2. Yes: Five Percent For Nothing (5th episode song)
3. History of the World, Part 1: Jews in Space (Happy Rosh Hashanah)
4. Presidents of the USA: MAch Five (5th episode and Constitution Day)

13. The Gathering: Nighttime Birds
14. Madness: One Step Beyond
15. Klaatu: Around the Universe in 80 Days

Lurking Under the Covers (3 songs):
17. Peter Murphy: Fun Time (covering Iggy Pop)
18. Foo Fighters: Down in the Park (covering Gary Numan)
19. Spock's Beard: Southside of the Sky (covering Yes)

Like I said, it was a prog-heavy week. This Monday (September 24) will be much more balanced with bands like The Cure, Avenged Sevenfold, Megadeth, Marillion, The Damned, Big Big Train, Tin Machine, Foreigner and the usual cool segments like birthday songs, cover tunes and returning this week: The Vault (classic tunes that are over 35 years old). 9pm at www.shmusicmedia.com gets you there and don't forget you can always head over to the Facebook page and join in the fun.

Peace,

What Will You Hear?

Good question, no? Well, you'll hear ...

Classic metal like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Triumph, Accept, Twisted Sister, Black Sabbath and more.

Nu Metal from Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Alter Bridge, Disturbed and others.

British New Wave, Goth and Post-Goth like Bauhaus, Love & Rockets, Joy Division, Tones on Tail, New Order, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Ultravox and those great new wave tunes from the 80's.

And a bit of Prog from the older stuff like Yes, Genesis, and King Crimson to more Prog Metal like Dream Theater, Night Wish, Spock's Beard and Transatlantic.

To stuff you may never have heard of like Demon, Cat Trance, Klaatu and more.

And a few gems from my collection like Brian May & Friends and Max Webster.

Plus, we've got the Vault (classic tunes from the 60's), The Lab (where we experiment with songs to see if you like them enough to bring them into the rotation) to What's Under the Cover? (cover songs from many genres).

That's just a tiny sampling of what you can expect to hear on The Rock Labyrinth.

So tune in on Monday night, August 20th at 9pm for the premiere episode.
